Congratulations to the new officers and BOD members and thank you in advance for your service. Congratulations to Erik Kramer, KE1V for finally getting something off of his plate:-)

New Business:

  • K1SUB took possession of an FT-890 which was donated to the club. The power amp has problems and he will look into troubleshooting it. If fixed we will make it available to the membership as a loaner. If it is not fixable, he will sell it for parts.
  • K1TW will publish the VE report shortly.
  • Meeting Space
    • It’s generally acknowledged that we need to change the venue for the club. We reviewed choices and activities which include:
    • Chelmsford Police station: Was not an option
    • Unitarian Church: FDR looked into that and it will not be a suitable option
    • Chelmsford Library: It is a viable choice but closes at 9PM
    • A school in the town of Bedford. That’s a viable choice. K1VK is investigating.
    • Middlesex Community College (Bedford) is another possibility
  • Treasurer’s and Secretary’s reports were approved.

Presentation

  • Erik made a motion to have a donation cup to defray or eliminate any costs incurred by Mike and Nan as they’ve been most gracious hosts. Although no vote was taken, the task was summarily performed:-)
  • Permanent Meeting Place: TWF made it clear that BARS is welcome to continue to come to the house. He is also inquiring about getting access to a meeting room at the Chelmsford Police station.

Presentation:

Bill Barber presented “DMR: A New Mode for Amateur Radio” during which he reviewed the standard, its origins, technical characteristics and current and future deployments. Bill has a 40 year history working on Land Mobile Radio. In fact, in the early ’70s he worked with Marty Cooper, the inventor of the cell phone. He worked for Motorola during many if not all of his career and it was a natural progression to leverage his professional background as he takes a leadership role in the pursuit of DMR (Digital Mobile Radio).

Readers interested in reviewing the presentation material should go to The New England Digital Emergency Communications Network website (www.nedecn.org). Browse to the website. On the left, find the downloads pulldown and make your way to the powerpoint presentations location.

Thank you Bill for a very fine presentation.
